Stuart's Piano Studio

Studio Policy

Please read this through carefully, print it out, sign the bottom, and give this to me at your first lesson. If you cannot print this for whatever reason, I'll have a copy that you'll receive at the first lesson. This policy is subject to change.

Concerning lesson length and cost

1. Students will be given either half an hour, forty-five minute, or hour lesson depending on age and/or desire.
2. The price of the lesson is $15 for a half an hour lesson, $22.50 for forty-five minute lesson, and $30 for a full hour lesson. The first lesson is free.
3. Payments are expected at the first lesson of each month and should include payment for that entire month.
4. I will teach up to two lessons if the student forgets payment, however I will not teach a third lesson without payment.
5. If the student did not transfer, I will email the student's parent/guardian what lesson books they need for their first lesson. I expect the student to bring these lesson books to every lesson we have.
6. For every successful referral a student gets me (i.e. having one of your friends sign up for lessons with me and pay at least one time), I will offer a free lesson. The length of the lesson must be still what your usual lesson length is.

Absences/Missed Lessons

1. Please tell me if you are unavailable to attend a lesson 24 hours in advance. Less than 24 hours notice will be nonrefundable and will not be rescheduled unless there was an emergency.
2. I reserve the right under special circumstances (i.e. sick, important event, etc.) to cancel a lesson as long as I tell the student more than 24 hours in advance of the lesson. If I have a prescheduled event, I will let the students know a week in advance. This will not happen often, however! I will work with you to reschedule the lesson for sometime within the next two to three weeks (with a preference for the weekends.) If I do not get it rescheduled, you will receive a refund for that single lesson.
3. If you do have an excused absence, I will work with you to reschedule that lesson for sometime within the next two to three weeks. Rescheduled lessons come at no additional cost as long as I've already received payment for the given month.
4. Please bring your music! I will probably have an extra copy of your music somewhere in my library, but this is not guaranteed.

Late Policy

1. Please be on time! For consideration to my other students and for me, your lesson will end at its regular time regardless of how late you are.

Parents

1. Parents are welcome to stay in lessons with their children if they wish. If I teach two students from a family, it is strongly suggested that a parent stay to watch over the other child not taking lessons as it is difficult for me to teach and babysit at the same time.

Practice

1. If you take lessons for a half hour, you should practice half an hour per day, six days per week. A forty-five minute lessons means forty-five minutes of practice per day, six days per week. An hour long lesson means an hour per day, six days per week. If a student decides to practice more than this, wonderful! The times above are the prefered minimum practice per week. It is recommended that younger students (under 10) break their practice up into 10 to 15 minute increments throughout the day.
2. If a student consistently fails to practice for numerous weeks in a row without reasonable excuse, I reserve the right to discontinue lessons.

Performance/Recitals/etc.

1. I am currently researching methods of giving recitals online which I would like to do annually; each student is strongly encouraged to perform in it. The first few years this might consist of a pre-recorded performance of all my students that is posted with a bulletin on YouTube.
2. Contests and other opportunities will be available to the student after a certain level of competence is demonstrated.

Holidays/Recreational Time

1. I will not be teaching on major holidays and will get two weeks off during Christmas (no lessons on the 22nd through the 4th.) I will not teach on Easter Monday. Holidays includes Labor Day, the Fourth of July, Thanksgiving, and Halloween (Halloween for the student's sake, not mine.) Other state holidays such as President's Day and Colombus Day are not observed, I will teach lessons those days.
2. On occasion, I will take a few days off to visit my family and friends. I will let the students know well in advance and work to reschedule their lessons. Lessons not rescheduled will not have to be paid for, of course.

Summer Schedule

1. While several of my students vacation during the summer months, I will teach straight through the summer without a break. Students are encouraged to continue lessons through the summer.
2. If you have any questions or anything to tell me, please call me at any time between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m. Monday through Sunday. My number is 815-222-1983
.
